TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER (1976)

This isn't the fastest paced of films but its a pretty cool watch, I tend to like religiously themed horror movies so this was right up my alley. Produced by the much esteemed institution "Hammer Films" I knew this would be of at least reasonable quality. Starring Christopher Lee at his usual greatness and Natashja Kinski making a beautiful and sultry Nun,

The plot follows occult/horror writer (John) who after a signing goes to pick up a friends daughter, Catherine from the airport. The daughter had been born part of religious sect "The Children of the Lord' that worships a demon, Astoroth. The cult lets the daughter out once a year to see her father but he manages to convince John to spirit her out of the cult and of course the cult send a couple of head honcho's after their missing member and are prepared to Kill John, and his father or anyone else who gets in the way in order to get back Catherine. Now, you may ask yourself why is Catherine so important to the cult? I guess you'll just have to watch the film and see!

Over all I thought it was pretty cool, and its shot in that old English style typical of the 70's. The performances are great and the musical score underpinning the whole thing is really well done as well... Overall, whilst not a classic is a very worthy watch!

THE BRIDES OF DRACULA (1960)

Well.. time to explore the semi distant dark past of the horror industry with some "Hammer Horror" flicks .. for this time round I chose "Brides of Dracula".

Hammer films were a british institution in horror circles, they managed to create (In my opinion.... some might disagree) some rather classy films when compared with what was going on at the time in the horror world of the 1950s through to the 1970s...

This is set after Dracula's death and revolves around the Baroness and young Marianne who is on her way to take up a job in Transylvania. of course the local coach driver who is still wary of the myths of Dracula that surround the region won't proceed to Transylvania and drops her off at the local tavern. Marianne can't find a room to stay so she takes refuge with a wealthy countess for the night. The countess keeps her son in chains within the house, she claims he is mentally unwell, but Marianne's curiosity gets the better of her and she meets him and finds him rather personable. It would appear the son is the heir apparent to the property and the countess is trying to keep him from claiming it. Marianne takes it upon herself to free the Countess' Son … without realizing he's a vampire.

Once loose the vampire is free to prey on the town folks and it up to the Dr. Van Helsing (the vampire hunter of Dracula fame / played by horror icon Peter Cushing) who just happens to be passing through town and Marianne to stop him.

Overall, its a well written and shot film, the violence levels are low so you can watching it with your horror loving offspring, tho some more may find the movie a little "campy", its definitely shot in that English drama style with a hint to Shakespeare, but if you can deal with that its a pretty cool movie!

Vampyres (1974)

As a vampire film this doesn't particularly stand out.... There are many better than this one. As pornography it doesn't really stand out either.......... but when you mix soft porn and vampires into one film you have a formula for success that is hard to beat.

In all seriousness this barely even qualifies as soft porn,  its a rather thin plot that revolves around  couple of rather attractive lesbian vampires that lure men into their web/home and proceed to suck out their souls. I get the horror involved but unfortunately part of me (well one part in particular) feels a little jealous of these guys........ What a way to die! PICK ME NEXT!!!

Some rather attractive babes from the 70s star in this one from a time when girls on film had natural knockers and pubic hair, It kind of has that Hammer film vibe but also that Roger Myers exploitational vibe as well......... It's well shot ... But with all those giant natural knockers from the 70's floating around its kind of hard to focus, so maybe it wasn't ...........  who knows really

Basically if you're male (or female) fan of boobs and vampires this is pretty cool, just don't expect to come out any smarter for having watched it.
