THE TOXIC AVENGER 2 (1989)

Too tired to think this weekend... After a heavy week at work I was looking for something that did not require too much in the way of thinking......... and this was just the ticket...

This one picks  up after the first movie and the Toxic (Toxie) Anvenger's home town of Tromaville is peaceful and uneventful after the toxic avenger has cleaned up all the crime and corruption ... painfully quiet ... so much so that Toxie gets a job in a nursing home for the blind to pass the time. A new group of criminals called "Apocalypse Inc" decide to blow up the nursing home (to kill toxie) but of course the Toxic Avenger is much harder to kill, and systematically and rather violently (and hilariously) takes care of the criminals sending them fleeing back to their base, and regrouping to come up with a plan to destroy the toxic avenger under the guise of sending him to find out about his father, which of course leads him to japan on a journey of self discovery. ... no not really, its all stupid shit, but its hammy as all hell, and will result in a few retarded chuckles from the viewer.

Once again this is like the first one, ultra tasteless B grade crap...... but watchable in the exact same way as the original. I'm not going to say this instalment is any better than the first, really its more of the same, if you liked the first one you'll know what you're in for... 90 minutes of slapstick gore, with less intellect than the average saturday morning cartoon.  But if you're coming back for part 2, you would already know what you're in for. You have no one to blame but yourself.

Over all I have to say I did enjoy this, and I would go so far to say its one of the better Troma Films (they really do pump out some crap) Anyway its been loaded up on you tube for your enjoyment or self torture which ever way you look at it

THE TOXIC AVENGER

One of the stupidest movies of all time produced by the guys at Troma Films. who are renowned for producing B grade crap of the highest order. This one is so crappy it actually becomes quite funny in a "Cant take my eyes off the car crash" type of way.

The plot follows the exploits of halpless nerd Melvin who just can't seem to catch a break, he works a crappy job cleaning at the local gym and is the brunt of all jokes until one day a prank goes too far and Melvin is humiliated beyond all belief and dives out the window into a conveniently placed vat of toxic waste and is transformed into the Toxic Avenger ... A mutant hero of superhuman strength and subhuman intelligence, who goes about fighting crime in his own unique but violent and hilarious way.

As you can no doubt guess this is nothing to be taken too seriously, it's kitchy as all hell and much of the violence (whilst earning it an R rating in Australia) is cartoon-ish in nature, many of the sight gags are pretty much lifted out of Saturday morning cartoons but infused with high level blood and guts. In fact that's how I'd describe the Toxic Avenger, as an ultra violent cartoon shot on film, complete with goofy sound effects and cheesy dialogue / accents.

Overall I think it's definately worth watching once, its a good laugh if you can get past the cheesiness of it all, and I quite enjoyed the film back int he 90's when I first saw it and this time when re-watching it I have to admit it was a pretty fun watch for a run through 20 + years later. Mindless, retarded fun.

GWAR - PHALLUS IN WONDERLAND (1992)

Our favorate aliens from beyond Uranus have been entertaining shocking and offending the world at large for almost 30 years now, and quite frankly they are masters at the art of shock rock. I bought my first Gwar CD over 25 years ago now and still love it to this day. Beneath the many kilograms of latex each member wears, they are accomplished musicians and masters of the art of their bloody pantomime.

For those unaquainted with GWAR they basically take shock rock to a new level, picking up where Alice Cooper left off, taking the live theatrics to a whole new level of sickness, depravity and hilarity. Bear in mind when watching this Gwar came before Marilyn Manson, Slipknot and Lordi.

This is their first venture into the world of movies, and it is a cheesy, sick, depraved, offensive piece of work. Needless to say I loved it. Their off the wall humour has been offending the world at large in the funniest way for many years now and this is a prime example. For my tastes it is the best in their series of their film works. If you liked the humour in movies such as Brain Dead, Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles this would appeal to you, you like heavy metal this will appeal to you, if like me, you like heavy metal, gore and comedy this is a must have.

For those who have some understanding of the band, the plot centres around the disembodied penis of lead singer Oderus Urungus which goes missing and the trials and tribulations involved in reuniting the singer with said body part. Along the way we are treated to violence, bloodshed, religious blasphemy and many litres of miscellaneous bodily excretions... in short, all the good stuff! We are also treated to five of the bands video clips which have been ingeniously worked into the plot of the movie. This movie takes pride of place in my DVD collection and I strongly recommend you check it out on you tube (as I'm sure you have sweet FA chance of finding it in a DVD store)  

Sadly major creative influence and lead singer of the band, Dave Brockie (who plays Oderus Urungus) passed away a couple of years ago so I'm not sure what kind of output the band will have from here on in... they have played a few shows since but no word on upcoming releases. This will always stand as a monument to his sick perverted sense of humour. To keep updated on what Gwar are doing make sure you visit their website from time to time
